Chaparri is part of one of the largest remaining dry forests in the world home to over 50 species of Plants, 140 species of Birds are also home to a large number of endemic and threatened vertebrate species. Nearly one third of Vertebrates are found no where else in the world. The dry forests alone support 110 Bird species!

Including the white-winged guan a species so rare it was considered extinct for over 100 years until its rediscovery in 1977. Globally threatened species include: Ochre-bellied Dove, Little Woodstar, Henna-hooded Foliage Gleamer, White-winged Guan. Near threatened species – Chilean Flamingo, Guayaquil Woodpecker, Tumbes Tyrant, Andrean Condor.
