OUR PROJECTS

MEET THE BEARS OF CHAPARRI

TONGO

Tongo, a sub adult male from Luya, 250 km from Chaparri, is a firm candidate for release to the wild*. He lives with Rosita, who does not accept him as a dominating partner. Tongo is a star of several television documentaries due to his playful temperament and skill at climbing trees.

* - Release will only be considered, if there is a budget which allows a release according to the guidelines of the Re-introductions Specialist Group: appropriate pre-release quarantine, long-term monitoring of released animals, data analyses and publication of results.

Arrival: 14 February 2002   Age: 2 years  Weight: 60 kg.

These photos are of Tongo enjoying the natural surroundings of Chaparri.
To adopt Tongo and help fund his rehabilitation for release back to the wild.
