JUST Bears? ... 

Chaparri is part of one of the largest remaining dry forests in the world home to over 50 species of plants, 140 species of birds. is also home to a large number of endemic and threatened vertebrate species. Nearly one third of vertebrates are found no where else in the world.  The dry forests alone support 110 bird species!

Summary of Chaparri Wildlife:

 including  the white-winged guan (above right)  a species so rare it was considered extinct for over 100 years until its re-discovery in 1977.Globally threatened species include: Ochre-bellied Dove, Little Woodstar, Henna-hooded Foilage-gleamer, White-winged Guan. Near Threatened species - Chilean Flamingo, Guayaquil Woodpecker, Tumbes Tyrant, Andean Condor; 

 

21 Mammals including the pampas cat and sezchuan fox. Globally threatened species include: Spectacled Bear - Population 180-250 (est) Main Threats Habitat loss hunting.   For a complete list of mammals spotted so far click here
